Fans' Favourite have teamed up with Vics Away Days, the Northwich Victoria Fans Away Travel Group, to bring you a new scarf for their Forza Vics range of merchandise. The scarf is inspired by the classic shirt worn when they made it to the 1996 FA Trophy Final. The Vics also achieved a very respectable 8th place in the Conference that season. Carwyn WIlliams and Brian Butler notched an impressive 40 goals between them, in all competitions.
Northwich Victoria knocked out Hednesford Town (following a replay), Wembley, Merthyr Tydfil (following 2 replays!), Bromsgrove Rovers and Hyde United to make it to the 1996 FA Trophy Final. They scored the most goals in the competition that year with 16 goals.
On Sunday 19th May 1996, The Vics made their way down to Wembley, for the first time since 1984, to take on Macclesfield Town. The Silkmen took the lead in the 19th minute and were 2-0 up by the 28th minute. Carwyn Williams halved the deficit early in the second half, and The Vics did have opportunities to add to the scoring. Unfortunately for Northwich Victoria, they ended up as Runners-Up, as Tony Hemmings put the game to bed just nine minutes from time with Macclesfield Town winning 3-1.
The shirt worn during the 1995-96 season was produced by Paulas Benara. The stunning shirt featured a smart white collar with green pinstripe, two white lines across each shoulder and a dark green wave-like pattern throughout. The shirt was sponsored by local business, Harvey's Tyres.
More information about how to purchase one of these beautiful scarves will be available soon.
